Question:
I had a composite filling replaced 5 days ago. The tooth is sensitive when I drink cold water, and mildly sensitive sometimes when I chew on it.Placing ice on the tooth does not seem to cause any sensitivity. What should I expect to do?
Answer:
There could actually be a couple of common problems that would give similar symptoms. The first option is that the filling is the first thing hitting when you close your teeth together. This would make the tooth cold sensitive and sore when biting on it. The second option is that the adhesive layer under the filling is too thick. This would cause the same symptoms, but the biting would usually be more sensitive than the cold. There are many other options, such as infected tooth, residual decay, tooth fracture and many others. Your dental professional would best evaluate these.
