The School of Dentistry has a long history of educating practitioners capable of meeting the oral health care needs of the communities they serve. The School provides opportunities for selected, qualified individuals to study dentistry under the most favorable conditions and in accordance with the standards established by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.
The degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery is awarded to graduates of the School's professional program and the Bachelor of Science degree to graduates of the Division of Dental Hygiene.
Prosthodontics Program:
Program Description
This 3-year graduate program is designed to combine advanced didactic training and clinical practice in all areas of prosthodontics and upon successful completion, lead to a certificate of prosthodontic specialty training and Master of Science in Dentistry degree. In addition to a comprehensive experience in conventional fixed and removable prosthodontics, the program also offers a broad background in implant and esthetic dentistry. An introduction to maxillofacial prosthetics and the diagnosis and treatment of patients with temporomandibular disorders is presented.
Comprehensive seminars designed to provide interaction between small groups of resident students and faculty cover topics including current and classic prosthodontic literature, treatment planning, the theory and practice of contemporary prosthodontics, materials science, geriatrics, TMD, etc. Considerable effort is made in preparing residents for the American Board of Prosthodontics examination.
Clinical practice embraces a broad experience in complex prosthodontic treatment modalities and philosophies. Emphasis is placed on treatment planning and the coordination of patient care by working closely with residents and faculty in other dental specialties. Other experiences are gained through course work in student teaching, research and seminar projects, the basic sciences, biostatistics, dental laboratory technology and biomaterials.
