University of Rochester Dentistry
Research is playing an increasing important role in DentistryǃÙs future as we continually strive to find preventive and treatment options in the oral health field. Whether it deals with the role of neuronal function in craniofacial development or a longitudinal study of lead exposure and dental caries, our investigators are working in all levels of research from basic to translational.
Our future directions include expanding training grant opportunitites in oral biology research; developing a hybrid oral biology research/clinical investigation MS degree; and continuing to build national and international alliances to enhance our research and education missions.
We have four specific research goals as we expand our capabilities: to boost our national reputation as a research institution; to enhance clinical and translational research; to better integrate basic with translational and clinical research efforts; and to improve the overall quality and number of research-intensive faculty.
Our Vision:
To be the premier dental postgraduate training environment for the education of dentistryǃÙs future academic leaders
To be a local and national leader of high quality oral health care which is evidence-based with an emphasis on prevention and community service
To move into the top ranking in NIDCR funding, EDD focusing on clinical/translational research and COB on basic research
To develop a service/education system which is a national model for the integration of dentistry with medicine and the health care system
