University of Queensland School of Dentistry
The mission of the School of Dentistry (The Dental School) is to fulfil its roles in the mission of the University of Queensland in all respects and in particular to extend, evaluate and transmit knowledge and skills in dental science and related sciences through learning, teaching and research of the highest international standard for the particular benefit of the people of Queensland and the wider national and international community. Consistent with the mission of the University, the Dental School is dedicated to the defence of intellectual freedom, the achievement of excellence in scholarship and the maintenance of the highest ethical standards.
The School of Dentistry Office is located in the Dental School in the heart of Brisbane City in Turbot Street. The majority of the undergraduate clinical years are spent within the Dental School, but the School also has teaching and research facilities on the main St. Lucia campus where students spend the majority of their early years.
The School of Dentistry at the University of Queensland offers a five-year undergraduate course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science (BDSc) which qualifies a graduate to register and practise as a dentist in all Australian States and New Zealand. The BDSc degree is awarded at pass and honours levels. In addition, the School offers a Bachelor of Dental Studies (BDentSt), a one-year intermitting degree that can be taken after completing three years of the BDSc program to foster a student's capacity for research. Postgraduate programs leading to the award of Graduate Certificate in Clinical Dentistry, Master of Dental Science (MDSc), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) are also available.
The School also offers the Bachelor of Applied Health Science (Oral Health) degree, leading to a career as a School Dental Therapist or Dental Hygienist.
