At UNLV, our students are not only studying about dentistry, they also are making a significant impact in communities that need it the most.
Nevada officials have made dental care a top priority and are working to improve access for its citizens. This provides The School of Dental Medicine and its students a special opportunity to shape the communities where they live and practice.
The "Crackdown on Cancer" program is one example of how the UNLV School of Dental Medicine is helping. Through this program, the dental school travels to public high schools throughout Nevada via a mobile RV health clinic to screen students for oral health problems stemming from tobacco use. Once identified, students are provided treatment, preventive education, and counseling.
UNLV's Dental School also has recently opened several dental clinics that are serving Medicaid and low-income populations in Southern Nevada. These clinics not only serve the communities in which they reside, but they also provide students with the opportunity to build dentist-to-patient relationships and hone their clinical expertise.
