The Dental School, as part of the Faculty of Medicine, is the largest Dental School in the UK outside London and provides most of the dental graduates in Scotland. Biotechnology & Craniofacial Section Research
Distraction Osteogenesis:
This is an on-going multidisciplinary research project based on the principle of lengthening deformed bones with gradual distraction. The following consortia are collaborating:

The research team have developed and applied an automatic distraction device for lengthening of the human mandible. There is also a collaborative investigation on the use of a locally-developed extra-oral midface distractor (GED) device with colleagues at several maxillofacial University centres in India.
Bone Healing
Dental Implantology
This is a collaborative research project at Glasgow Dental Hospital and School to assess healing around dental implants in compromised bony areas using digital subtraction radiography. It is funded by commercial companies, Astra tech Ltd,and Annova Implant Ltd, as well as a research grant of иг10,000 awarded by The Royal Society of Edinburgh.
