University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry
Our mission is to promote a healthy and humane society, doing so in all the ways appropriate to a public dental school. Specifically, to promote a healthy society we seek to provide a high level of service in the areas of teaching, research, patient care and public service in the dental, oral, and craniofacial arts and sciences.
We seek to do so at a reasonable cost ÇƒÏ whether that cost is incurred by patients seeking care, by students paying tuition, or by the citizens of the State of California subsidizing our educational mission.
Our programs are comprehensive ÇƒÏ we offer not only a predoctoral curriculum leading to the D.D.S. degree, we also offer certification in most of the dental specialties, including oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, periodontics, pediatric dentistry, and public health dentistry. These programs are important not only to postgraduate dentists studying to be specialists, but to all dental students, because our specialist faculty and our specialty residents contribute materially to every dental studentǃÙs experience of specialty care, and are crucial to the quality of a general dental education. They offer important exposure to some of the leading dental specialists in the world. This exposure enhances oneǃÙs education in general dentistry, and also is important to anyone who eventually aspires to establish their own specialty. Our comprehensiveness is further reflected in our doctoral (Ph.D.) and masterǃÙs (M.S.) degree programs, and even in our baccalaureate degree (B.S.) program in Dental Science, for those who do not already hold a bachelorǃÙs degree.
Organizations that enjoy enduring success have values and a purpose that remain fixed while their operational practices continuously adapt to an ever-changing set of external circumstances. We seek to preserve our core while stimulating progress and change, believing that this is a formula that will allow us to renew ourselves and to achieve exceptional long-term performance as an institution ÇƒÏ more than that, it is a strategy that will allow our graduates to remain at the forefront.
