The US market for dental implants and final abutments experienced strong growth in 2003, generating almost $270 million in revenues. Driving demand for dental implants was a rise in the number of dental practitioners attending training seminars and education courses in the placement and restoration of dental implants. Although attendance does not always translate into involvement in implantology, it significantly increases the likelihood that a practitioner will educate patients and provide referrals. A lack of patient education is one of the most significant factors limiting demand, and stems from insufficient awareness among general practitioners (GPs). ManufacturersÌ continued efforts to provide various forms of continuing education opportunities to GPs will fuel growth in demand over the forecast period.
