Cosmetic dentistry has become an accepted part of the modern day dental practice. The publicǃÙs demand for aesthetic treatments has increased dramatically in recent years. According to data released by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, teeth whitening and veneer procedures increased 300 per cent and 250 per cent respectively, over the last five years. Even when these and other cosmetic treatments are performed by dentists who have had the appropriate training, they may increase a dentistǃÙs liability risk as illustrated in the following case studies.
ProAssurance Designated as an Approved PACE Program Provider
The ProAssurance Group has recently been designated as an Approved PACE (Program Approval for Continuing Education) Program Provider by the Academy of General Dentistry. The PACE program seeks to assure that continuing dental education activities meet the high standards of the Standards and Criteria as specified by the PACE program. Further, the PACE program seeks to assure that approved continuing education providers have theorganizational structure and resources necessary to provide continuing dental education activities of acceptable quality. To be eligible under the PACE program, continuing dental education providers must provide multi-state educational programs and have offered a planned program of continuing dental education activitiesfor at least 12 months.
