Richard Rasmussen , DDS
Dr. Richard A. Rasmussen, Jr. practices periodontics and implant dentistry in Tampa, Florida. Since 1982, his enthusiasm for his profession has touched both his patients and the dental profession. Dr. Rasmussen earned his baccalaureate in chemistry and doctorate from the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and received several academic awards. He then received his specialty training from the University of Alabama, with a joint appointment to the Veterans Administration Hospital.
He has authored articles in The Journal of Dental Research, The Journal of the Florida Dental Association, Implantology Update, and The Journal of Craniofacial Surgery. Most recently, he completed a textbook entitled The Br¬nemark System of Oral Reconstruction: A Clinical Atlas. He has lectured exclusively on the subjects of periodontics and implantology, and has appeared on television and radio.
He is one of the leading authorities in the use of the Br¬nemark method of implantology, in the United States. Dr. Rasmussen is actively involved in clinical research. In addition to his appointment at the University of South Florida School of Medicine, Department of Otolaryngology, he has also been involved in clinical trials with the Food and Drug Administration.
Most recently, he was part of a multicenter study that resulted in the release of a new therapy for controlled release of antibiotics at the local site of infection. Currently, he is working with the development of new and more effective methods of bone grafting, in conjunction with implants.
