Occlusion in Implant Dentistry
Occlusion in Implant Dentistry
Implants bring unique and new problems to restorative dentistry. While there are many areas of overlap and commonality between implant occlusion and dental occlusion, there are many differences, and it is important that the nature of both dental and implant occlusion be understood by the entire implant team.
An examination of occlusion will be presented that clarifies the relationship between teeth and implants. Participants are encouraged to bring cases they are treating for presentation and guidance.
The following topics will be discussed:
Overview of occlusion -- what is the relationship between condylar position and occlusion
Examination of basic biomechanical principles, and the differences between implant biomechanics and dental biomechanics
To splint or not to splint? If so, how far
Should implants be connected to teeth? If so, when
Why the same crown that is perfect for a tooth is terrible for an implant
What materials to use for implant restorations
Screw vs. cementable restorations
