Newfoundland and Labrador Dental Health Plan
The Newfoundland and Labrador Dental Health Plan comprises a childrenĖs dental component and a social assistance component. The childrenĖs dental program covers the following dental services for all children, up to and including age twelve:
examinations (at six month intervals)
cleanings (at 12 month intervals)
fluoride applications (ages six to twelve at 12 month intervals), except in areas where the School Rinse Program is in place
x-rays (with some limitations)
routine fillings and extractions
other specific procedures which require approval before treatment

Services are also available under the social assistance component to recipients of social assistance who are 13 to 17 years of age:
examinations (every 24 months)
x-rays (with some limitations)
routine fillings and extractions
emergency examinations, when patient seen for pain, infection or trauma

Adult recipients of social assistance are eligible for emergency examination as a result of pain, infection or trauma and extractions only.

Each beneficiary covered by the Dental Health Plan must pay a variable amount directly to the dentist for each service provided (e.g., fillings, extractions, etc.).

Services are only covered by the Dental Health Plan if they are received in Newfoundland and Labrador.
