New York University College of Dentistry
New York University College of Dentistry
Founded in 1865 as the New York College of Dentistry, the College of Dentistry became an integral part of NYU in 1925, when it was renamed the New York University College of Dentistry (NYUCD). NYUCD is the third oldest and the largest dental school in the United States.
Mission and Vision
If there is one word that defines NYUCDĚs educational focus, it is integrity. At NYUCD we believe that the best people will make the best dentists. Our mission statement describes the way in which we seek to foster the development of dentists who will bring profound integrity and ethical character to every endeavor, while demonstrating the highest quality clinical knowledge and expertise. The statement reads, ĎThe NYU College of Dentistry will partner with students in achieving academic excellence, providing the best oral health care, and engaging in research, scholarship, and creative endeavors to improve the health of the highly diverse populations in New York City and around the world.Ó
NYUCDĚs commitment to partnership also underlies our vision, which is to become the dental institution with the greatest impact on health in the world. This vision is possible because of three assets, which make NYUCD unique. One is its size and the impact that comes with it. NYUCD is the largest dental school in the United States, educating more than eight percent of our nationĚs dentists. The second asset is our extraordinary global reach. NYUCD boasts a level of national and international diversity unmatched by other dental schools. The third asset is our location in New York City, which allows us to leverage both the media and industry in ways that are not possible at other dental schools.
Fortified by these distinctive assets, NYUCD has set forth a bold agenda. Our goal is nothing less than to transform the nature of dental education and practice in ways that will dramatically improve the way we serve our students, our patients, and the surrounding community.
