The ITI Research Institute for Dental and Skeletal Biology was established on 1. January 2003 as a joint venture between the ITI Foundation, Basel, Switzerland, and the University of Bern, Bern, Switzerland. It functions as an independent University Institute, providing a link between basic research, clinical practice and industrial development in the fields of dental and skeletal biology. Specifically, its research activities embrace developmental, physiological, pathological and therapeutic aspects of dental and skeletal biology and of dental and orthopaedic implantology.

Introduction
The ITI Research Institute for Dental and Skeletal Biology was established on 1. It functions as an independent University Institute, providing a link between basic research, clinical practice and industrial development in the fields of dental and skeletal biology. Specifically, its research activities embrace developmental, physiological, pathological and therapeutic aspects of dental and skeletal biology and of dental and orthopaedic implantology. These efforts are aimed at:
ǃ¢ improving our understanding of the development, structure, function and pathology of the dental and skeletal systems at the physiological, tissue, cellular and molecular levels.
ǃ¢ elaborating and optimizing information, materials and techniques for clinical application in the treatment of dental and skeletal diseases.
Research fellowships:
The ITI Research Institute will undertake the scientific training of postdoctoral fellows, who will have the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research at an internationally competitive level.
