Question:
Dental Appliance for GERD? Some years ago I had an operation to cure(?) my GERD reflux problem.
I am now able to sleep without heartburn however lately I notice that when I wake up I have a very acid taste in my mouth, and the last couple of visits to the dentist seem to indicate that my enamel is eroding.
I think I have my reflux back. Is there something I can do to protect my teeth from my refluxing stomack acid while I sleep? Protective coating? Some kind of appliance? ...Visitor from Hawaii
Answer:
I would first see your physician for a true diagnosis.
Dentally, you can have a Bruxism Appliance made for upper and lower teeth so acid can't get to the enamel easily if at all.
Thirdly, get home fluoride from your dentist and use of enamelon toothpaste or the toothpastes with calciumphosphate may help ameliorate your condition.
Your dentist should be able to address all of your concerns and help stop the erosion before it becomes a problem. Best of luck.
