The mere mention of the word ÏdentistÓ often strikes not just anxiety, but fear, in the hearts (and mouths) of millions of Americans. IÌm sure we all know someone who has not been to the dentist in years, if not decades, due to terrifying thoughts of the dentist wielding his torturous drill. And maybe that ÏsomeoneÓ is you.

If you are one of the millions Americans who have not been to a dentist in years because you are afraid of what will happen to you there, you will be happy to learn that what happens during a dental visit has changed dramatically in recent years. In many dental offices today, you will experience no pain whatsoever, and you may even get to watch one of your favorite DVDÌs, have a vanilla latte, and fall asleep during a head/neck massage by one of the dentistÌs assistants.

There are many specializations in the field of dentistry including general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, and neuromuscular dentistry. Some dentists choose to specialize in just one of those areas, while other dentists prefer focusing on two or all of those specialties.
