Course Description
Preserving and/or reconstructing the extraction socket of a failed tooth, according to the
principles of guided bone regeneration enhances our ability to provide esthetically pleasing
restorations to our patients, without violating the predictability & function of these prostheses.
This course is designed to teach dentists the procedure of socket preservation and/or
socket reconstruction via guided bone regeneration. Bone healing patterns, grafting
materials & membranes, indications & management of complications will be addressed.
08:00 - 08:45: Registration
08:45 - 10:00: Histology; Bone Healing in sockets with and without bone
grafting; and around implants
10:00 - 10:15: Break
10:15 - 12:15: Socket Preservation Techniques; Graft Materials, Indications,
Advantages etc.
12:15 - 13:00: Lunch
13:00 - 14:00: Postoperative patient care and audio-visual presentation
14:00 - 16:45: Hands-on socket preservation on animal mandibles

CLINICIANS
Tassos Irinakis, DDS, MSc, Dip.Perio FRCDC(C), received his dental degree in Athens, Greece, and his specialty training in
Periodontics and Implant Surgery from The University of British Columbia. He is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Periodontics
and Dental Hygiene, and teaches in the undergraduate clinic and in the Graduate Periodontics and Implant Program. Dr.
Irinakis is a Fellow with the Royal College of Dentists of Canada; a Periodontal Consultant for Vancouver General Hospital and the
College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia. He lectures and presents hands-on courses for dentists and dental hygienists and
maintains a part-time periodontal and implant surgeries practice in Vancouver.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Dino Georgas, BSc, DMD, MSD, Cert.Perio, FCDS(BC), received his dental degree from The University of British Columbia, and
his specialty training in periodontics and implant surgery from The University of Washington. Dr. Georgas is a part-time Clinical Assistant
Professor in the Faculty of Dentistry at The University of British Columbia where he teaches in the graduate periodontics program. He
has co-authored several articles in various journals; has lectured and presented hands-on courses for dentists and dental hygienists, and
maintains a private specialty practice, with an emphasis on periodontal plastic procedures and implant associated surgeries.
Andrea Csiszar, BSc, DMD, graduated from The University of British Columbia, and was awarded the British Columbia Society of
Periodontists Prize; the Canadian Academy of Periodontology Book Prize; and the Kathleen McAnulty Memorial Prize in Graduate
Periodontics. Dr. Csiszar is currently working towards her Diploma in Periodontics and a Masters of Science Degree in Oral Biology.
She is a part-time instructor in the Faculty of Dentistry at UBC.
