Dissemination of Evidence-Based Information
There is a gap between the most current evidence-based health knowledge and the information that is typically applied in making health and care decisions. As the knowledge base grows, the gap widens. Dissemination of Evidence-Based information is a necessary and crucial step to close the gap and enhance and improve oral health.
About Evidence-Based Clinical Decision Support (CDS)
CDS provides clinicians, staff, patients or other individuals with knowledge and person-specific information, intelligently filtered or presented at appropriate times, to enhance health and health care.
CDS encompasses a variety of tools and interventions such as secondary EB journals, electronic records and charts, computerized alerts and reminders, clinical guidelines, order sets, patient data reports and dashboards, documentation templates, diagnostic support, and clinical workflow tools.
Instantly available patient information delivered to PDAs or laptops, for example, holds the promise of reducing adverse drug interactions, dosage errors, costs and paperwork. After hours dental emergencies can be efficiently managed with CDS tools.
CDS tools and products are readily available and they are being more widely used. For example, knowledge resources include the JEBDP, JADA, ADA Professional Product Review, and the ADAÌs upcoming EBD Web site.
