The use of dental implants to treat patients with missing teeth is becoming routine in todayÌs practices. Dental hygienists will be treating many patients with implant-supported prostheses. This course is designed to inform the dental hygienist about the clinical use of root form dental implants. Understanding the types of dental implants being placed, the clinical procedures required to surgically place them, and the restorative aspects of dental implants are the key to successful treatment outcomes. The dental hygienist plays an important role in the maintenance of dental implants. The preventive procedures of oral hygiene and instrumentation of the dental implant-supported prostheses will be presented.
At the conclusion of this course, you will be able to discuss:
Ô The types of dental implants routinely used in practice.
Ô The surgical and restorative procedures used with dental implants.
Ô The indications and contraindications of dental implants.
Ô Clinical monitoring of tissue health around implants.
Ô Oral hygiene procedures and instrumentation of dental implants in recall procedures.
Ô Clinical features of infected and failing implants.
