Dundee Dental School
Welcome to our web pages, where we have the opportunity to introduce the Dental School to you. Committed staff and enthusiastic students combine to make this institution an exciting place in which to work and learn. Dentistry has over the last few years undergone some inspiring and stimulating developments. It is possible to prevent many oral diseases and treatment for these diseases continues to improve.
The University of Dundee Dental School is in the forefront of research, teaching and clinical dental practice. Within a nurturing environment, our students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, have the opportunity to fulfill their aspirations to achieve excellence clinically and academically.
As a dentist your task will be to ensure that your patients have healthy teeth and mouths, thus contributing to their general health and well-being. This will involve you not only in treating dental and oral disease but also in helping to prevent them. You will need to be able to do all this in a patient, tactful and considerate manner, recognising the needs, reactions and fears of your patients. To become a dentist you will need a high degree of technical skill, accurate clinical judgement and intelligence, and a logical and inquiring mind. You also need to be fit and healthy with a cheerful and kindly disposition. We can help you with this!
The Dental School is not too large for your education to feel impersonal. It has a thriving student society, a coffee bar, and an excellent, student-led, programme of social activities.
The School provides modern clinical, lecturing, tutorial facilities for the dental education of a student intake of 55 to 60 each year. The Hospital and School Building is in the main University Precinct, only a short distance from the Library, the Students' Union and the University Sports Centre, and has its own lecturing, tutorial, laboratory and clinical facilities. These include a combined self-teaching centre with audiovisual aids and a dedicated computer-aided learning suite, along with reference material. Closed-circuit television is used in appropriate cases. The School recently received a 'Highly Satisfactory' Teaching Quality in 1997 and gained an 'International Excellence' (Grade 5) Research Assessment rating in 2001.
