Changes to the shape, color, length or a gap in teeth can be a simple process. There are a few different options, one is veneers. Changing your smile with veneers can usually be completed in two visits. Having the smile you have always wanted can be a very simple procedure.
A veneer is a thin shell of porcelain that is bonded to a tooth to improve its color and shape. A veneer generally covers only the front and top of a tooth. They provide a natural tooth appearance and porcelain veneers are stain resistant. Gum tissue tolerates the porcelain veneer, very well. Veneers can be used to close spaces between teeth, lengthen small or misshapen teeth, or whiten stained or dark teeth. When teeth are chipped or beginning to wear, veneers can protect them from damage and restore their original appearance. Porcelain veneers, when it is firmly bonded to a tooth, becomes very strong and durable.
To restore teeth with veneers usually takes two appointments. The first appointment the dentist will shape and roughen the teeth. The dentist will remove .5 to .7 mm of the toothÌs enamel in preparation for the veneer (similar to the thickness of a chickenÌs egg shell). Impressions are taken of your teeth, which is used to make precise working models of your mouth. On these models veneers are artistically crafted to fit the prepared teeth. A temporary veneer can be created while the lab fabricates your permanent veneer.
