Same Day Teeth (A brilliant New Procedure)
Maryanne arrived to see me on Monday morning at 8:30am with a broken front tooth. Her front tooth could not be saved using conventional techniques. The tooth root needed to be removed.
The problem was that Maryanne is the president of her local Rotary club and enjoys an active public life. The answer; 'teeth today'. When there is no infection present we can remove the broken root, place an implant immediately and a few hours later fit a temporary post and crown attached to the implant. This is then left in place for approximately six months then replaced with a more permanent porcelain crown.
Maryanne left with her new tooth just after lunchtime the same day. What has in the past taken 9-12 months to complete while wearing a temporary denture has taken just 4 hours. Brilliant!
Replacement of Several Teeth
If you have lost several teeth, replacing them with dental implants is an excellent alternative because your replacement teeth are not dependent on support from adjacent teeth, as is the case with bridges and partials.
Replacement of full Upper or Lower Jaw
If you have lost all of the teeth in one of your jaws, a full denture may work in the short term. But without tooth roots to keep the jawbone healthy, it slowly resorbs, or shrinks, causing the denture to lose its snug fit, shift and potentially cause discomfort. This loss of bone can also change the shape of your face. Dental Implants integrate with your jawbone, keeping the bone healthy and your teeth securely in place.
Implant Solutions Tooth Replacement Made Simple provides New Zealand's first fully integrated permanent tooth replacement service. Your entire treatment will be undertaken by the same Dental Implants team under the same roof saving you time, money and a lot of worry.
Examination and Planning
After your initial examination, we will put together a plan outlining your problem and the steps we need to take to solve it. This can be done directly with you or in consultation with your own dentist.
Placing of Dental Implants
Your implants are placed on site at the Implant Solutions Clinic under local anaesthesia. During this process, our surgeon prepares the implant site and places the appropriate number of titanium dental implants. In most cases, you will be able to resume normal activities the next day.
Bone Healing
After your dental implants are placed, they are covered with gum tissue while the bone heals (osseointegration) . During the next three to six months, the implants will bond with your jawbone. Many patients use a temporary crown, bridge or overdentures during this bone healing period.
Connecting the Post
Once your dental implants have fused with your jawbone, we can attach a post (healing abutment) to each implant. Then the tissue is left to form for a period of 2 to 6 weeks.
Restoration
When your gum tissue has healed, our restorative dentist replaces the post with a final abutment and impressions are taken so that the replacement teeth can be designed and then fitted.
Will dental implants work for me?
Most adults are candidates for dental implants. The main limitations is the amount of available bone. Call us on 09 530 8461 to book a consultation and we will evaluate whether dental implants are a viable solution for you.
Will I be able to chew with the same force and pressure I use with me normal teeth?
Studies have shown that chewing efficiency improves significantly after treatment with dental implants. Following a brief adaptation period, your chewing efficiency will be comparable to that of natural teeth.
Will my new teeth look natural?
When dental implants are used in combination with our modern restorative dentistry, the appearance, comfort and function of your teeth will most likely exceed your expectations.
Is the procedure painful?
With anaesthesia, you are unlikely to experience pain during implant placement. After treatment, some levels of discomfort may be expected based on the extent of the procedure. Most patients tell us that the pain they experience is similar to that of a tooth extraction, but that the benefits far outweigh the discomfort.
Will there be any swelling after the implant procedure?
Most patients experience minimal swelling. Any swelling that does occur usually goes away one or two days aftern the procedure.
How do I care for my implants?
Your new teeth must be cared for and checked regularly, just like your own natural teeth. Brush and floss as recommended by your dentist. See your dentist every 6 months or more frequently if advised.
