Our Mission
The Dental Health Foundation works through community partnerships to promote oral health for all by:
Ô Providing leadership, advocacy, education, and public policy development;
Ô Promoting community-based prevention strategies;
Ô Encouraging the integration of oral health into total health;
Ô Improving access to and the quality of oral health services
The foundation works to bring the latest findings in dental research to the general public, educators, and health practitioners; thereby bridging the gap between scientific knowledge and its application at the community level.
Programs
Oral Health Access Council
Working in partnership with the California Primary Care Association (CPCA), the Dental Health Foundation (DHF) works to improve access to oral health for California's most vulnerable populations through cooperative leadership. The Initiative is led by a 38 member council comprised of regional organizations.
Water Fluoridation
Among other community campaigns, the DHF advocates the fluoridation of public water supplies. The process of fluoridation supplements the natural fluoride content in water to a level proven optimal for the prevention of tooth decay.
First Smiles Program
A joint venture of the California Dental Association Foundation & The Dental Health Foundation to educate health providers, community members, and First 5 Commissions on oral disease prevention for children ages 0-5.
2006 Oral Health Needs Assessment of Children
The 2006 Oral Health Needs Assessment (OHNA) is a statewide surveillance initiative to provide information about the oral health status of California children in kindergarten and third grade.
