WO/2007/056611

LAIMS What is claimed is:

1. A denture adhesive article comprising: a) a safe and effective adhesive amount of a denture adhesive component; and b) a safe and effective amount of a water insoluble component selected from the group consisting of a water insoluble thermoplastic component, a water insoluble liquid component, and mixtures thereof; wherein the article is bioerodible; and comprises at least one layer; and when the article comprises 3 layers and has a denture adhesive component selected from the group consisting of sodium carboxymethylcellulose, polyethylene oxide, polyvinyl alcohol, and mixtures thereof, then at least one outside layer contains a water insoluble thermoplastic component, or at least one layer further comprises an additional denture adhesive component selected from the group consisting of AVE/MA, salts of AVE/MA, mixed salts of AVE/MA, starch derivatives, carrageenan, cellulose derivatives, polymeric acids, polymeric salts, polyhydroxy compounds, and mixtures thereof; wherein the additional denture adhesive component excludes sodium carboxymethylcellulose, polyethylene oxide, polyvinyl alcohol, and mixtures thereof.

2. The article of claim 1 wherein the article is non-aqueous and is flexible.

The article of claim 1 wherein the water insoluble component is a water insoluble thermoplastic component selected from the group consisting of rubber, natural wax, synthetic wax, polyvinyl chloride, nylon, fluorocarbon, polyurethane prepolymer, polyethylene, polystyrene, polypropylene, cellulosic resins, acrylic resins, petrolatum, polyvinyl acetate and mixtures thereof.

5. The article of claim 6 wherein the water insoluble thermoplastic component is selected from the group consisting of natural wax, synthetic wax, petrolatum, polyethylene, and

mixtures thereof, preferably wherein the water insoluble thermoplastic component is microcrystalline wax having a melting point of from 70? C to 90? C.

6. The article of claim 1 wherein the denture adhesive component is from 40 to 60% by weight and wherein the denture adhesive component is selected from the group consisting of cellulose derivatives, starch derivatives, saccharide derivatives, polyethylene oxides, polyethylene glycols, polyvinyl alcohol, carrageenan, alginates, karaya gum, xanthan gum, guar gum, gelatin, algin, tragacanth, chitosan, acrylamide polymers, Carbopol, polyamines, polyquaternary compounds, polyvinylpyrrolidone, AVE/MA, salts of AVE/MA, mixed salts of AVE/MA, polymeric acids, polymeric salts, polyhydroxy compounds, and mixtures thereof.

7. The article of claim 6 wherein the denture adhesive component is a salt or mixed salt of AVE/MA, more preferably wherein the denture adhesive component is selected from the group consisting of a salt or mixed salt of AVE/MA, the salt containing a cationic salt function comprising a cation selected from the group consisting of Group IA and Group 2 A cations of the periodic table, yttrium, titanium, zirconium, vanadium, chromium, manganese, iron, nickel, copper, zinc, boron, aluminum, and mixtures thereof, preferably wherein the cation is selected from the group consisting of strontium, zinc, iron, magnesium, calcium, sodium, and mixtures thereof, even more preferably wherein the salt is selected from the group consisting of a calcium/zinc salt of AVE/MA, a magnesium/zinc/sodium salt of AVE/MA, a calcium/sodium salt of AVE/MA, a zinc salt of AVE/MA and mixtures thereof.

8. The article of claim 1 wherein the denture adhesive component comprises, at a level of from 5% to 60% by weight, a cellulose derivative selected from the group consisting of hydroxyethylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl-cellulose, carboxymethylcellulose, corn starch, and mixtures thereof, preferably wherein the cellulose derivative is sodium carboxymethylcellulose.

9. The article of claim 1 comprising a water insoluble thermoplastic component having a penetration value of 25 to 150, preferably wherein the penetration value is from 60 to 80.

10. The article of claim 1 wherein the article comprises a homogeneous mixture of (a) and (b).

11. The article of claim 1 wherein the article has dry tack.

12. The article of claim 1 wherein the shear storage modulus G' (measured in dynes/cm2 at a frequency of 1 Hz at 25?C) is from 1 x 106 to I x 1010, preferably wherein the shear storage modulus G' (measured in dynes/cm2 at a frequency of IHz at 25?C) is from 3 x 106 to I x 109, even more preferably wherein the shear storage modulus G' (measured in dynes/cm2 at a frequency of IHz at 25?C) is from 5 x 107to 5 x 108.
