ABOUT US

The goal of College of Dental Surgeons of Saskatchewan is to insure quality oral health care is available to all members of society and ensure that consumers are treated fairly and with a high level of professionalism.

A Council, consisting of seven dentists elected by the general membership of the college and three consumer representatives appointed by the government, governs the College and attempts to ensure these goals are met by:

Fostering professionalism among our members;
Self-regulation of members through the formation of peer-review committees;
Sponsoring continuing education;
Promoting the profession in general.
The College of Dental Surgeons of Saskatchewan does not set or control the fees charged by individual dentists, however we can and do investigate fee and treatment disputes on behalf of consumers.

The peer-review groups perform a valuable service by acting as an outside, but knowledgeable source of opinion. They can provide the consumer with information why a situation should be approached in a particular way, and/or why a fee is fair and reasonable. Similarly, they can inform a dentist that he/she is unreasonable or inappropriate. Most consumers who have dealt with the peer-review committees or had a dispute arbitrated feel that the outcome has been fair and appropriate. For more information on this process please see our Public Protection section.

The College helps to maintain the level of care available to residents of Saskatchewan by requiring all dentists licensed in the province to participate in Continuing Education courses and seminars throughout the year.

Through consumer initiatives such as Dental Health Month, the College of Dental Surgeons hopes to increase general awareness of the importance of good oral health practices and its importance in maintaining on your overall health.
