Whitening teeth can be achieved easily by using a take home whitening system. The procedure involves taking impressions of your teeth and making a model on which we will construct a custom made whitening tray. For two-three weeks you will place a whitening gel (carbamide peroxide) in the trays and wear them for four to size hours per day. Depending on your lifestyle, the results will vary, and you may need touch-ups to help maintain your bright smile.
Sealants
Sealants are a thin, plastic coating applied to the grooves of permanent, posterior teeth. These sealants can help prevent bacteria from accumulating in the grooves and causing decay. Sealants should be applied as soon as the posterior teeth are erupted, usually between the ages of five and seven for the first molars and 11 and 14 for the second molars and premolars.
Periodontal Scaling and Rootplaning
Periodontal scaling and rootplaning is a procedure that involves the removal of bacterial plaque and calculus (tartar) from the crowns and roots of teeth. At times this requires more than one dental visit, depending on the amount of deposit present. These procedures are necessary in order to avoid gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and periodontal disease (bone loss) which can ultimately result in tooth loss.
Restorations
Silver and gold fillings are no longer our only options for restoring borken or decayed teeth. A tooth can now be restored with porcelain or composite resin to give a beautiful, natural look.
Bonding
Bonding is a procedure that can give fantastic results. It involves applying a bonding material to teeth that are small, spaced or discolored. Bonding can also prevent worn teeth from additional wear.
Endondontic Therapy
More commonly known as a root canal, endodontic therapy is performed when the nerve of a tooth is too damaged and needs to be removed. During this treatment, the dentist will gain access to the inside of the tooth, much like when doing a filling. The diseased pulp will be removed and the canal/canals will be flushed with a special solution and then a medication is placed inside. A temporary restoration will then be placed until a later date at which time a permanent crown is required.
Inlays/Onlays
Inlays and onlays are types of restorations that are made of porcelain, gold or composite resin. They are custom made to fit between (inlay) or over (onlay) the cusps of your teeth. Restoring your teeth with an inlay or onlay involves preparing your tooth, taking an impression and sending the impression to the lab to have the restoration made, or fabricating the restoration in office using the Cerac system. This procedure can be completed in either one or two office visits.
Bridges
A bridge is used to replace a lost tooth or teeth. Bridges are secured to adjacent teeth with crowns, inlays or attached to dental implants. It is important to replace missing teeth with a bridge so that neighboring teeth do not shift out of position, causing further problems. Also your ability to chew is greatly enhanced with the placement of a bridge. The procedure often requires only two visits.
Implants
A dental implant consists of a tiny titanium post that is inserted into the gum and acts as an anchor for the fabricated crown. A dental implant is an ideal treatment for replacing missing teeth.
Crowns
A crown, commonly known as a cap, is a restoration that completely covers your tooth and can be made from porcelain or gold. You may require a crown if you'e had root canal therapy, a filling has failed, your have a large cavity or old filling, or if you would like to improve the appearance of your tooth. Crowns usually require two visits, or they can be made in our office using the Cerac System in one visit.
Veneers
Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to the front of your anterior teeth. They can be used to correct teeth that have an irregular shape or an unappealing colour. Veneers can be fabricated in a lab and require two office visits, or they can be made in our office in one visit using the Cerac System.
Adult Orthodontics
Braces are a common treatment to correct and align improperly positioned teeth. Treatment can range from a few months to a few years, depending on the severity of the problem.
Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD)
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is located at the point where the lower jaw meets the skull. Sometimes, due to a bad bite, tooth grinding and clenching, posture or trauma, the temporomandibular joint is strained and overworked. This results in a number of symptoms including pain, popping of the joint, headaches, etc. A common treatment for temporomandibular joint pain is the use of a bite plane appliance which will reduce the strain on the joint.
