Australian Dental Prosthetist Association
Dental Prosthetists throughout Australia are officially recognized as an important part of the oral health team. It has taken nearly 50 years to get this new profession established
The first legislation passed in Australia by the Tasmanian government in 1957.This legislation allowed the registered Prosthetist (then titled dental mechanic) to provide full and partial dentures directly to the public. Initially an oral health certificate from a dentists was required for the provision of partial dentures but this restriction was soon abolished as Dental Dental Prosthetists proved to have the necessary knowledge and skills to manage that part themselves.
