American College of Prosthodontists NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
The American College of Prosthodontists Education Foundation (ACPEF) was formed by the ACP in response to the demand for education and research. The ACPEF provides the resources required to support the vision of the College and the needs of the specialty.
Since 1985, the Foundation has been fulfilling its mission by providing scholarships and research grants. Even with limited resources, last year the Foundation provided more than $20,000 in scholarships.
The ACPEF is a non-profit entity governed by an independent Board of Directors with representatives from the College, leading academic institutions and the corporate community all working together for the overall advancement of the specialty.
The needs of the specialty are growing and the Foundation's leadership is responding in an aggressive and proactive way by implementing a strategic plan to address five key issues:
1) The need for skilled Prosthodontists is steadily increasing as a result of an aging population and the growing demand for esthetic procedures.
2) Young dentists are reluctant to pursue post-graduate training in the field of Prosthodontics, as well as other specialties, due to cost.
3) Public awareness of the benefits and availability of Prosthodontics is limited.
4) Dental schools must be competitive if they are to continue to attract and retain the highest quality faculty members.
5) Market and technical research is essential in disseminating knowledge to Prosthodontists. Keeping them informed of new technologies, emerging trends and innovations within the specialty is essential.
The ACP Education Foundation is accepting a leadership role in addressing these area by launching a major, multi-phased funding initiative to raise pledged financial support. By partnering with corporate leaders from the manufacturing sector, laboratories, academic institutions and other supporters of the prosthodontic specialty, the Foundation will build support to resolve industry challenges through education and research.
