Dental Tech Laboratory LLC of Amherst has expanded with the purchase of Cisco Ceramics, a specialized dental laboratory in West Amherst, the first in a series of lab acquisitions in the works.
Andrew Jakson, owner of Dental Tech, said the acquisition brings additional knowledge and training opportunities to the company.
"Cisco's is one of the boutique labs in our area and what he brings into our team is a wealth of experience and a whole bunch of different knowledge," he said.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Cisco owner Scott Cisco and two other staff join Dental Tech's staff of 36, with Cisco serving as head of the ceramics department. The company was 14 years old.
Dental Tech company provides a full-line of aesthetic dental prosthetics to dentists and clinics, including milled restorations. Another three acquisitions of small labs are underway, with two from the local area and another out of town, Jakson said.
In business over 11 years, Dental Tech will relocate later this year from existing offices at 2000 Eggert Road to new leased space at 235 Aero Drive near the Buffalo Niagara International Airport. The move will significantly expand the facility from 2,500 square feet to 13,000.
The company had planned to move in March to an expanded site elsewhere, but weeks before the move, the facility burned down. Moving to the Aero Drive space will give the company the ability to add more personnel and expand its product line.
Paul Ostermeier, marketing and sales manager, said the company also plans to expand into a larger market geographically and has begun expanding in the area of seminars and presentations. Revenues are also up: In the last year, the company has doubled in size, he said.
"All of this is new, especially for a lab that two and half years ago was seven people," he said.
