SYNOPSIS:

We are pleased to invite you to attend the 33rd Annual USC Periodontal & Implant Symposium. The focus of this yea's symposium will be "Minimally Invasive Interventions". The minimally invasive field is driven in part by patients' demand for procedures which will not interfere with their active lifestyle, the desire to minimize morbidity, shorten recuperation period and maximize esthetic outcomes. Moreover, the availability of a number of novel surgical procedures and enabling technologies has provided an opportunity to perform less invasive procedures. These technologies include: growth factors and biological response modifiers, imaging technologies such as cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), interactive image manipulation software, computer guided implant placement, magnification technologies such as the operating microscope and endoscope, lasers and advanced biomaterials. As exciting as these developments are, we as clinicians are obligated to demand scientific documentation prior to their clinical use. The panel of internationally renowned speakers will review and discuss the clinical and scientific merits of these developments, to separate science from hype. The program boasts four days with a diverse range of educational opportunities. These include all-day hands-on workshops for in-depth training, as well as a full day program dedicated for dental hygienists. Although the majority of the general-session presentations are interdisciplinary in nature, there are also sessions designated as "Surgical Track", "Restorative Track" and, "Dental Hygiene Forum" to focus on specific disciplines. This is an educational opportunity not to be missed by the entire oral health care team, including specialists, restorative dentists and dental hygienists. We hope to see you all in Los Angeles in January 2008.
