HIV/AIDS and Oral Health: People that are HIV positive should have dental exams every six months to check for tooth decay, periodontal disease, or gingivitis. Some HIV medicines cause a decrease in saliva (dry mouth) which contributes to tooth decay. Periodontal disease needs to be treated early to prevent tooth loss.
